Letters Announcing Price Rises

I often receive questions asking how to announce an increase in prices to customers.

There are three golden rules for announcing a price rise.

1 Just tell them. You should be proud of your prices

2 Never, ever apologise for a price increase.

3 At the same time that you announce a price rise, remind your customers about the value you add.

The following two examples give you some options on how to do this. You are free to 'steal' this copy and use it as you choose, ideally by adapting it for your business.

The principles here apply whether you are selling products or services.

Dear

Our updated pricing is as follows:

LIST PRICES

As you may be aware, we have made some important changes over the last year that means even better products/ faster service (list main benefit for your particular customers)

Here’s an example for an accountancy firm This includes a free annual tax ‘check up’ where we ensure that you are maximising your allowances and minimising your tax bill. Those who received their check up this year saved an average £620, so if you have not taken advantage of your check up, please let us know.

In this example we list part of the service that saves the customers money, which deflects the impact of the price rises and refocuses on the value we are adding

As ever, I am here to answer any questions that you have and assure you of our continued dedication to proving you with the finest xxxx and unrivalled support and expertise.

Yours etc
